Zero setup and automatic discovery
DC++ is built around hubs: to find anyone, you connect to a hub server and configure a share list first. At a LAN party that means someone has to run or find a hub and everyone has to type in its address. LANBucket skips all of that. Open it on the same network and it finds the other machines automatically using multicast peer discovery.
A UI anyone can use
DC++ exposes hubs, slots, and download queues in a dense interface that can intimidate less technical friends. LANBucket is drag-and-drop: drop a file to share it, click a file to download it.
Swarming from incomplete files, plus compression
DC++ can download from multiple sources, but only from peers who already have the complete file. LANBucket lets peers share pieces before they've finished downloading, so a big file spreads through the room faster. It also compresses transfers on the fly, which DC++ doesn't.

Search and chat across a whole hub
DC++ lets you search everyone's shares on a hub and chat with the whole room. If you're running a large, persistent community where discovery-by-search and messaging matter, that's a strength LANBucket doesn't try to replicate.
Maturity and cross-platform clients
The Direct Connect ecosystem is decades old, with clients on multiple platforms and huge existing communities. LANBucket is newer and Windows-only for now.
