This Privacy Policy describes how LANBucket ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the LANBucket application ("the App") and its associated backend services.
What LANBucket Does
LANBucket is a local network file sharing application for Windows. The App includes a fallback LAN peer discovery backend service that helps devices on the same network find each other when multicast discovery fails. Devices on your local network report themselves to our service so they can discover and connect to each other peer-to-peer.
Information We Collect
When you use LANBucket's peer discovery service, we collect the following information:
- Public IP Address: Used as a grouping key to identify devices on the same network. This is used server-side only and is never shared with other users.
- Device GUID: A stable, app-generated unique identifier for your device.
- IPv6 Link-Local Addresses: Only link-local addresses (fe80::/10 range) are collected to facilitate peer-to-peer connections on your local network.
- Last-Seen Timestamp: Records when your device last checked in with the service.
How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information solely to return a list of other devices on your same network so they can connect peer-to-peer. That's it.
We do not use your information for:
- User profiling
- Advertising or marketing
- Any purpose other than peer discovery
Data Storage and Retention
- Storage: All data is stored in-memory only on US-based servers.
- Retention: Data automatically expires and is deleted within 24 hours.
- No Persistence: We maintain no database, no logs, and no backups.
Information Sharing
With Peer Devices: Other devices on your same network will receive your Device GUID and IPv6 link-local addresses — this is the core function of the peer discovery service and is necessary for the App to work.
Your Public IP: Your public IP address is never shared with other users or any third parties. It is used only server-side to group devices on the same network.
No Third Parties: We do not sell, rent, or share your information with third parties, data brokers, or advertisers.
Your Rights and Choices
Stop Data Collection: Simply stop using the App. When you close LANBucket, no further data is collected or transmitted.
Data Deletion: All data automatically self-destructs within 24 hours. There is no persistent data to delete.
CCPA Rights: This service is hosted in the United States. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected and to request deletion. Our 24-hour automatic data expiry satisfies the right to deletion. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising purposes.
Children's Privacy
LANBucket is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy if we add new features or functionality to LANBucket. When we make changes, we will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
